Beijing Historic Map : Former Legations Quarter-Map-1916AD

The below Section or Cut out of a Danish Map of Old Beijing provides much of the lay-out of the Former Legations Area in Beijing, now a City Government dominated part of the Dongcheng District of Beijing.

The "Legations Quarter" itself is situated along the south border of the Dongcheng District, bordered in the West by the Square of Heavenly Peace (Tian 'An Men Square), in the North by the large East Eternal Peace Avenue (Dong Chang 'An Jie'), in the East by DongDan Road (Dongdan Dajie'), and finally in the South by Qianmen East Street (Qianmen Dong Dajie') the latter being the road laid in the space created by the filling of the once mighty city Moat and doing away with the massive Ming Dynasty Era (1368 AD - 1644 AD) City Walls which connected through QianMen (and Chongwen Men).

The map section depicts depicts many of the historic parts and details of "The Legations" and when compared to adjacent satellite image Map of the current day situation creates a useful tool for finding ones way around the small district.
