This Official Map of the Beijing Fragrant Hills Park gives a good overview of the entire Park Grounds situated in the foothills of the famed western hills in North-West Haidian District at some 28 kilometers (17 miles) distance northwest of City Center (TiananMen Square).
Fragrant Hills Park is a large park of hills and forest interspersed with temples and Dagobas, covering a total area of 160 hectares (395.4 acres). Both its natural sceneries and cultural relics are abundant and famous in history. Among things the Western Hills were once home to celebrities such as Sir Reginald Fleming Johnston a.k.a. the Tutor of the Last Emperor, as well as the Communist Party Leadership and Mao Zedong during their first months in the City of Beijing in 1949/50 AD.
Apart from the Temple of the Azure Clouds, the Park is home to the somewhat notorious Fragrant Hills Villa (Xiang Shan Fang Dian) of the Top of the Communist Party Leadership, a multitude of shrine halls and pavilions, as well as two mountain peaks. The Xianglu Peak (Incense Burner Peak) or Xiang Shan is the Parks highest point at 557 meters (1827.4 feet) above the North China plain.
