After the death of the Emperor, the funeral procession would leave the Palace from the Xi Hua Men (西华门) after which the body was carried the long road to its final destination at the Royal Tombs. In the Ming Dynasty these were situated at a location now known as 13 Tombs (Shisan Ling), which is situated in a valley near the Badaling Pass of the Great Wall of China. In the Qing Dynasty there were two locations, The Eastern Qing Tombs (Qing Dong Ling) and the Western Qing Tombs (Qing Xi Ling).
