The Monkey King - Traditional Peking Opera's most Famous Caracters is and must be Sun WuKong - The Monkey King. As being a leading role, the King Ape caracter is usually played by a Leading Male actor, in Peking Opera terms called the "Sheng" (The "Dan" are leading female roles).
Depicted here wielding a Staff, the Monkey King caracter is a lively one. He laughs, He moves and stirs things Up. He playes a Warrior-type role, but is certainly NOT the hero of the Story at all. The Monkey King is the "Chou" or clown of the Play. He is also a "Fu'Jing" which means the sort of rediculous anti-caracter to the Plays hero. He is very amusing.
